Meet Gorgeous 5 star Silo Hotel Cape Town!

I have seen many hotels but nothing like Silo Hotel Cape Town before, it was love at first sight! No wonder why it’s on Forbes list The Hottest New Hotels of the year!

The Silo occupies an actual grain silo on the V&A waterfront. It opened earlier this year.
It’s an urban hotel, with a lot of amazing art from African artists!

We had the oppurtinity to hear the story about the company and hotel from one of the amazing staff and you could really tell, that she love to work at the hotel.

And you could also feel that the owner really love this hotel and handpicked every detail. Just look at this amazing windows made by a famous British architect/designer which name is Thomas Heatherwick. The hotel is designed by Liz Biden of South Africa’s Royal Portfolio (Royal Malewane, La Residence), the hotel has a modern feel. You will find a rooftop pool, a lounge and a bar round out the pleasures. The rooms feels very spacious as it is about 6 meters high, and the views, just look at the views!

Reinvented by Heatherwick Studio, the structure will house the much-buzzed-about Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, which opens September this year on the lower floors.

One of the famous artist you will find, is the one who made a mask to Lady Gaga, his name is Cyrus Kabiru!
I’m fascinated by his art and happy that it will feature prominently at The Silo Hotel

The exterior of the building was designed by Thomas Heatherwick, Founder and Principal of the London-based Heatherwick Studio. From the outside, the greatest visible change to the building’s original structure is the addition of the ingenious glass windows inserted into the geometry of the hotel floors. These multi-faceted windows bulge outward as if gently inflated. By night, this transforms the building into a glowing beacon in the Table Bay harbour.

On the top of the hotel you will find an amazing roof top pool and lounge. And ones again I need you to check this amazing view and look at this sunset!

The Silo is located in the centre of Cape Town and is the ideal base from which to explore all that Cape Town has to offer. At the hotel itself, you can relax at the spa, take afternoon tea overlooking Table Mountain, sip champagne on the roof and of course take a swim at the rooftop pool.

For me who has a thing for details and interior design this hotel feels like heaven. I love a company called Guild Design and some of the colours and details in the hotel reminds me of it. I was told that Liz had travelled the world to find the right interior and vibe for the hotel.

Curious as I am, I had to find out more about this amazing woman…

The story of The Royal Portfolio is the owner of the hotel began in 1999 when Liz and Phil Biden opened Royal Malewane in the Greater Kruger National Park.

Phil explains that “We were fortunate to have a beautiful holiday home in the African bush. We had so many lovely memories and special times there as a family and Liz really wanted to share that. But it was addictive. And Liz was a natural. We soon wanted to share more unique South African experiences with our guests, our friends and our growing family.”

Liz has a real talent – not only for creating, designing and decorating incredible spaces, but for genuine and warm hospitality. She has remarkable vision and a real eye for detail.

To complement the safari experience at Royal Malewane, the Bidens soon opened Birkenhead House in Hermanus offering a coastal experience focused on the whales and the wonderful beaches and then La Residence in Franschhoek offering a wine country experience focused on gastronomy.

The Biden family has always been very hands on with the business. Liz and Phil were delighted when their son Matthew agreed to join as the Managing Director of The Royal Portfolio in 2012 – to continue The Royal Portfolio’s legacy of growth and investment in Africa.

The Silo is the latest chapter in the story and the realisation of a long-term dream to open a luxury hotel in the Biden’s home city of Cape Town. The Silo will complete the circuit of quintessentially South African experiences adding Cape Town’s art and culture to the existing experiences.

The family ethos really resonates throughout The Royal Portfolio today where each and every team member is considered to be a part of the family. You will only find 28 rooms in the hotel, but they are all gorgeus and we love small hotels with a lot of atmosphere! Five star Silo Hotel has a 24-hour front desk and gift shop at the property.

The hotel also provides bike rental. The Model Shipyard Gallery Cape Town is 201 m from The Silo Hotel, and Clock Tower Offices (Visitors Info) is 201 m from the property. Cape Town International Airport is 17.7 km away.

Their hotels concierge is known to be able to solve nearly everything that you request. I met him, and he is amazing!

The Silo Spa, located on the fourth floor of The Silo Hotel, has five treatment rooms, two of which can be made into a couple’s room.
